February is Women In Horror Month. HORROR! How incredible is that? 9 years ago this month a grassroots movement to support and celebrate the underrepresented work of women in the horror industries was born, and we at Daisy Dukes are eternally grateful for that. As a group of 3 female filmmakers who adore all things horror, this month holds a special place in our dark hearts.
The climate is changing. It's been a long time coming but people are finally starting to realize the unique pitfalls of being a women in the entertainment industry, and well, just being a woman on planet earth. The #MeToo and Times Up movements are shining a much needed and horrifying spotlight on the sexism that has been creating hostile and dangerous environments for women. At times like these, it's hard not to be inspired to stand up, speak your mind, and do what you can to help push these discussions along.
Everything we do as Daisy Dukes, both on screen and behind the camera, is meant to talk about and create a world where women can be and/or do anything. The spirit with which we and our incredibly talented teams approach each project is infused with a sense of not only creativity and curiosity, but also empowerment. We are proud to be women making quality content in an all too often male-stereotyped genre. Horror is for everyone and we consider it an honor to work with all the women and men who have graced our sets. So here's to all those out there who are celebrating Women In Horror Month this year, we hope your month is filled with all the gross-out gore moments your heart desires.
